The Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act
The embroidered text panel above is the first work in this series. It presents the first paragraph in the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act / Bill C36 which states that sex work is inherently exploitative. By separating out this paragraph and presenting in the form of a traditional needlework sampler I am bringing attention to the stigma and moral bias on which the government has based this new legislation.
This was the first in an ongoing body of work that investigates traditional needlework as a medium to bring advocacy for the decriminalization of sex work into a public forum
